Nils-Lennart Johannesson

Nils-Lennart Johannesson (1948-2019) was the founder and director of the project from 1993 until his death. He studied in Stockholm University and Yale University. Johannesson received his doctorate in 1976 at Stockholm University with the dissertation "The English Modal Auxiliaries: A Stratificational Account." His first postition as professor of English linguistics was at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology between 1991 and 1999. After this he was chair professor of English Linguistics at Stockholm University from 2000 to 2018.

His publications, apart from work on the Ormulum, include work on Old English syntax, and the fiction of J.R.R. Tolkien. He also translated two of the poet George Mackay Brown’s books, A Calendar of Love and Greenvoe, to Swedish.
