Science Fiction in literary history and popular culture


The course engages with the Science Fiction genre from the perspectives of literary history and popular culture. It aims at developing students’ ability to read and analyse anglophone literary texts within the genre. In addition, the course highlights and treats genre specific central concepts, the historical development of the genre, and frequently occurring science fiction themes.

Teaching Format

The teaching comprises seminars. Attendance is mandatory at 75% of seminars. Written make up work can be submitted for 35% of seminars at most. More detailed information will be available in the course description.

Apart from scheduled teaching, time will be spent reading course literature and completing mandatory assignments.
