The course gives students a historical survey of the development of short story form, short-story theories, and practice of writing. Students will research the way various traditions within short story form (e.g. British, American, Russian, French etc) have influenced each other. The course will also give an insight into how short-story theories have influenced the contemporary development of the short-story market. Students will actively produce short story material, as well as critically review the adaptation of theory in a workshop environment.

This course is only open to students within the MA programme in English, with a specialisation in Transnational Creative Writing.
