The aim of this course is to diversify students’ knowledge in the field of literature and/or linguistics and to further develop their ability to read and write in English. Students acquire the necessary skills to produce an independent research paper (a degree project).

The course consists of:

  • Two optional modules (7.5 credits each) in linguistics and/or literature chosen from the modules on offer that term.
  • A degree project either in linguistics or literature (15 credits). Students choose a topic (literature or linguistics) for their degree project at the start of the term and are provided with a supervisor. For a literary degree project at least one of the optional modules should be in literature and for a linguistic degree project at least one of the optional modules should be in linguistics. In addition to individual supervision, students take part in workshops/group supervision, and follow a mandatory seminar series on writing a Bachelor’s degree project. At the end of the term students defend their research papers at a ventilation seminar, and act as an opponent for another student’s project.

Eligibility criteria: English II, 30 credits (or the equivalent)
